Concert One is a repertory ballet program with four individual segments, one of which will be a world-premiere presentation by award-winning choreographer and Novaballet dance artist Robert Dekkers. Each segment of Concert One was selected by the founding dance artists of the company, the end result being a challenging program which is expansive in scope and a celebration of classical and contemporary movement. Energetic and global, it promises to infuse the senses with dynamic layers of color and sound.

South Korean choreographer James Jeon opens the program with Inner Moves, a contemporary experimentation of dance which fuses the unique traits of Eastern movement with traditional ballet. Set to an original composition by Moon Seok Chang, it exists in an atmosphere of compelling sensuality and evocative emotion.

Live piano accompanies the middle two segments, featuring three movements of Vicente Nebrada’s Our Waltzes and the new work by Robert Dekkers.

Adiemus, a vibrant and athletic work by David Palmer and Yanis Pikieris, is a colorful and celebratory piece set to the ethnic tribal sounds of composer Karl Jenkins. Showcasing the technical ability and artistry of the dancers, it’s an affirmation of the expressive reality of contemporary and neo-classical ballet.

Taking place in the 600-seat Tempe Center for the Arts Theater, this performance promises to bring a new level of intimacy to the dance concert experience. To learn more about each piece, click on the the links at the left side of this page.
